Milbemax is a broad-spectrum worming tablet manufactured by Elanco. It treats roundworms, tapeworms, hookworms, whipworms, and also provides prevention against lungworm (Angiostrongylus vasorum) in dogs. It is a POM-V medication, so a veterinary prescription is required.

How Often Should You Worm?
Standard recommendation for adult dogs and cats: every 3 months (4 times per year). Dogs at higher risk of lungworm (those that eat slugs/snails or live in endemic areas) may benefit from monthly worming.
Annual worming cost with Milbemax (buying online): £20–£60 depending on dog size. This compares to £40–£100 buying from the vet.
Cheaper Alternatives
If the prescription requirement is a barrier, non-prescription (NFA-VPS) worming alternatives include:
- Drontal: £8–£15 per treatment, no prescription needed. Does not cover lungworm
- Prazitel Plus: £5–£10 per treatment, no prescription needed. Generic equivalent to Drontal
- Panacur: £5–£12, no prescription needed for some formulations. Covers lungworm
Milbemax's main advantage over non-prescription alternatives is its lungworm coverage combined with comprehensive worm treatment in a single small tablet.
