Treatment of flea infestation in dogs (Ctenocephalides felis and C. canis). One
treatment provides immediate and persistent flea killing activity for 5 weeks. The
product can be used as part of a treatment strategy for the control of flea allergy
dermatitis (FAD) where this has been previously diagnosed by a veterinarian.
Treatment of tick infestation in dogs (Dermacentor reticulatus, Ixodes ricinus,
Rhipicephalus sanguineus). One treatment provides immediate and persistent tick
killing activity for one month.
Fleas and ticks must attach to the host and commence feeding in order to be
exposed to the active substance.
Shake well before use.
The dose is 3.75 mg of praziquantel per kg of body weight. This equals to 3 ml of
suspension per 20 kg of body weight.
Administration is performed using an automatic oral applicator (drencher), which
allows simple and safe administration of the suspension. Adjust the opening in the
neck of the bottle for a convenient connection of the tube to the drencher.
Underdosing could result in ineffective use and may favour resistance development.
To ensure a correct dosage, body weight should be determined as accurately as
possible. If animals are to be treated collectively, reasonably homogeneous groups
should be set up, and all animals of a group should be dosed at the rate corresponding
to the heaviest one.
Accuracy of the dosing device should be thoroughly checked.
Do not use in cases of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the
excipients.
Sheep:
None known.
Reporting adverse events is important. It allows continuous safety monitoring of a
veterinary medicinal product.
Reports should be sent, preferably via a veterinarian, to either the marketing
authorisation holder or its local representative or the national competent authority via
the national reporting system. See the package leaflet for respective contact details.
Unnecessary use of antiparasitics or use deviating from the instructions given in the
SPC may increase the resistance selection pressure and lead to reduced efficacy. The
decision to use the product should be based on confirmation of the parasitic species
and burden, or of the risk of infestation based on its epidemiological features, for each
flock.
Repeated use for an extended period, particularly when using the same class of
substances, increases the risk of resistance development. Within a flock, maintenance
of susceptible refugia is essential to reduce that risk. Systematically applied interval-
based treatment and treatment of a whole flock should be avoided. Instead, if feasible,
only selected individual animals or subgroups should be treated (targeted selective
treatment). This should be combined with appropriate husbandry and pasture
management measures. Guidance for each specific flock should be sought from the
responsible veterinarian.
