About

What is Synulox?

Synulox is a veterinary antibiotic manufactured by Zoetis containing amoxicillin trihydrate and clavulanic acid. This combination is extremely effective because clavulanic acid inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes that some bacteria produce to resist amoxicillin, making it effective against a wider range of bacterial infections.

It is the veterinary equivalent of Augmentin (the human version) and is one of the most commonly prescribed antibiotics in UK veterinary practice. Available as palatable tablets (50 mg, 250 mg and 500 mg), Synulox Palatable Drops (oral suspension for small dogs and cats), and Synulox RTU injectable.

Synulox treats infections of the skin, soft tissues, urinary tract, respiratory tract and dental/oral cavity. It is bactericidal (kills bacteria) rather than bacteriostatic, and is effective against most common veterinary pathogens including Staphylococci, Streptococci, E. coli and Pasteurella species.
