What is Simparica Trio?
Simparica Trio is a monthly chewable tablet manufactured by Zoetis that combines three active ingredients for broad-spectrum parasite protection in dogs. It contains sarolaner (kills fleas and ticks), moxidectin (prevents heartworm and treats certain worms) and pyrantel (treats roundworms and hookworms).
As an oral treatment, Simparica Trio is absorbed into the bloodstream. Sarolaner begins killing fleas within 3 hours and kills ticks within 8 hours. The worm-active ingredients work systemically to treat and prevent intestinal parasites and heartworm. The liver-flavoured tablet is highly palatable and most dogs eat it willingly.
Simparica Trio is a direct competitor to NexGard Spectra, offering very similar coverage. It is licensed for dogs from 8 weeks of age weighing at least 1.25 kg, and is available in five weight-specific tablet sizes. Like all isoxazoline products, it requires a veterinary prescription in the UK.

Seizure risk: Contains sarolaner (isoxazoline). Not recommended for dogs with epilepsy. Discuss with your vet if your dog has any neurological history.

No lungworm cover: Despite containing moxidectin, the dose in Simparica Trio is not sufficient for licensed lungworm prevention. Use Advocate if lungworm is a concern.
