What is Loxicom?
Loxicom is a veterinary-licensed generic formulation of meloxicam, manufactured by Norbrook Laboratories. It is bioequivalent to Metacam, meaning it contains the same active ingredient at the same concentration and works identically in the body. The MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) requires generic medications to demonstrate bioequivalence before licensing.
Like Metacam, Loxicom is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) that reduces pain, inflammation and fever. It is used for the same conditions: osteoarthritis, post-surgical pain, and musculoskeletal injuries in dogs and cats. The dosage, administration, and safety profile are identical to Metacam.
The only difference is the price. Because Norbrook did not bear the original development and licensing costs, they can sell Loxicom for significantly less.
