Free Vet Care UK — PDSA, RSPCA, Blue Cross

Find out if you qualify for free or subsidised veterinary treatment through PDSA, RSPCA, Blue Cross and other UK charities.

Several UK charities provide free or heavily subsidised veterinary care to pet owners who are struggling financially. These services are a genuine lifeline for hundreds of thousands of pets every year.

PDSA (People's Dispensary for Sick Animals)

PDSA is the UK's largest provider of free veterinary care. They operate 48 Pet Hospitals and over 380 PDSA Pet Care schemes at private vet practices across the UK.

Eligibility: You must live within the catchment area of a PDSA Pet Hospital or Pet Care practice, receive a qualifying means-tested benefit (such as Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Universal Credit, or Pension Credit), and have your pet microchipped and neutered (PDSA will help with both).

What's covered: PDSA provides free consultations, medication, surgery, and emergency treatment. They also offer free preventive care including vaccinations, neutering, and microchipping for eligible owners.

How to register: Visit pdsa.org.uk and use their eligibility checker, or call 0800 731 2502.

Blue Cross

Blue Cross operates four animal hospitals (in Victoria, Hammersmith, Merton, and Grimsby) plus mobile clinics that visit communities with limited access to affordable vet care.

Eligibility: Owners on qualifying benefits who live within the catchment area. Blue Cross uses an income-based assessment and may ask for proof of benefits.

What's covered: Consultations, treatment, surgery, and emergency care. Blue Cross also runs a Pet Bereavement Support Service (free to anyone, not just Blue Cross clients).

How to register: Visit bluecross.org.uk or call 0300 777 1897.

RSPCA

The RSPCA operates four animal hospitals (in Birmingham, Manchester, Putney, and Finsbury Park) providing low-cost treatment. They also run clinics and a network of local branches that may offer financial help.

Eligibility: Generally aimed at pet owners on low incomes or means-tested benefits. Each hospital has its own registration process.

What's covered: Consultations, treatment, neutering, vaccinations, and microchipping at reduced rates.

How to register: Visit rspca.org.uk or contact your nearest RSPCA animal hospital directly.
